Second Sunday Suppers are free and open to all. These community suppers are hosted by our deacons and offered on the 2nd Sunday of every month from November to March. This is a collaborative effort that involves high school students (cooking), children (growing vegetables at Roots and Shoots summer day camp), deacons (cooking, serving, cleaning, and delivering to home bound community members), and other volunteers.
“Second Sunday Suppers” is the new name for Community Pot Soup Suppers. This year we are expanding beyond soup and offering a variety of meals. November features a turkey dinner, December has an Italian theme with Spaghetti Pie, and January we will take the chill off with Haddock Chowder. February we are serving a ham dinner and March is a surprise. We always have a vegetarian option. Second Sunday Suppers are open to the entire community and take place at the Deer Isle Congregational Church, 57 Church Street, across from the town hall/old elementary school.
All are welcome and we are kid friendly. Invite a friend or neighbor to join you. Donations are accepted if you wish to offset the cost of the food, but they are never required or solicited. These suppers are much more than a free meal – it is an opportunity to enjoy an evening out with neighbors during our winter months.
